Recognise World Food Safety Day with exporTT

Adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2018 in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization, the first-ever World Food Safety Day is being celebrated today June 7th, 2019. The theme for the day this year is ‘Food safety, everyone’s business’.

The day aims to create awareness about the importance of maintaining safe food standards and also reduce the burden of deaths due to food-borne diseases.

Food safety is key to achieving several of the Sustainable Development Goals and World Food Safety Day brings it into the spotlight to help prevent, detect, and manage food-borne risks. Safe food contributes to economic prosperity, boosting agriculture, market access, tourism, and sustainable development.

exporTT provides support, both advisory and financial for technical assistance to all exporters seeking to implement international standards that are required for their products or services entry into export markets. These standards may be process related, or product specific for various international markets. These include, but are not limited to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard and Hazards and Critical Control Points Management (HACCP), and Compliance with the US Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

Keeping food safe is a complex process that starts on the farm and ends with the consumer. All stages of the food chain, from production, harvest and storage to preparation and consumption, must be considered.
