ePing: Keeping Track of Product Requirements in Foreign Markets
What is the e-Ping Alert System?
ePing, is a global online tool which enables private and public stakeholders to access and discuss Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) notifications covering products and markets of interest in a timely manner. A joint initiative of the UN, WTO and ITC, ePing allows exporters, importers, investors and others to keep track of and share information on product requirements.
Support to the ePing Alert System
Article 10 of the TBT Agreement states: Each Member shall ensure that an enquiry point exists which is able to answer all reasonable enquiries from other Members and interested parties in other Members as well as to provide relevant documents regarding technical regulations, standards adopted or proposed, conformity assessment procedures, trade related agreements and memberships operated within its territory.
A function established within each member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) relating to the implementation of the transparency provisions of the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT).
The NEP assist Exporters in gaining access to foreign markets. It provides:
- Clarification on notifications
- Translations of notifications and/or requests to queries made on behalf of exporters
- Transparency as it relates to notifications on Technical Regulations (TR) / Conformity Assessment Procedures (CAP)
- Advanced information from partner agencies in foreign markets
- Analysis to determine if a requirement is a Non-Tariff barrier or a legitimate Technical Regulation
The TBT NEP is located at the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards.
